This past March, the federal school meal waiver that previously made it possible to offer free meals for school districts nationwide were not extended as a part of the recently passed, federal Omnibus Appropriations Bill.
What does this mean for school meals next year?
The federal waiver that made school breakfast and lunch at no cost to families are set to expire June 30, 2022. Due to this Federal change, all meals will return to full pay for the 2022-2023 school year. Households may qualify for free or reduced-price meals by completing a free and reduced-price meal application.
Who can receive free or reduced-price meals?
All children in households receiving benefits from Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Ohio Works First (OWF); foster children that are under the legal responsibility of a foster care agency or court; children participating in the district’s Head Start Program; and children who meet the definition of homeless, runaway, or migrant are eligible for free meals. Also, your children may receive free or reduced-price meals if your household’s income is within the federal income eligibility guideline limits. These federal income eligibility limits are available and updated each July.
How can households apply for free or reduced-price meals for the 2022-2023 School Year?
Parents can apply by completing a free and reduced-price meal application either online through the Infinite Campus parent portal at https://campus.swcsd.us or by completing a paper application which is available in all school buildings and the district Food Services Department.
What is the cost for school breakfasts and lunches for the 2022-2023 school year?
