Over Thanksgiving break, Marley Williamson, a sophomore and trumpet in the Central Crossing High School (CCHS) marching band, earned a prestigious spot in the Macy’s Great American Marching Band. Marley represented Central Crossing, the South-Western City School District (SWCSD), and the state of Ohio in the nationally televised Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this past Thursday.
Marley’s honors come after submitting an impressive audition tape featuring a three-minute etude and along with a demonstration of her marching and playing skills. Out of thousands of applicants, she was selected as one of the 185 band members chosen from across the country, and one of the few representing Ohio.

Ahead of the parade, Marley flew to New York City for a week of intense rehearsals and leadership seminars, preparing for the big performance, which was viewed by over 50 million people on NBC and approximately 2.5 million spectators along the parade route. She performed under the direction of Dr. Richard Good of Auburn University alongside top music students from all 50 states.

Marley’s achievement was a testament to the skills and dedication she developed as part of the Central Crossing Marching Band. We also recognize the outstanding leadership and guidance of her band directors, Mr. Eric Hubbell, Mr. Jeff Blume, and Mr. Philip Showalter, whose support was instrumental in Marley’s success.
Before Marley departed for NYC to participate in the parade, Grove City Mayor Ike Stage visited Central Crossing High School to present her with a Proclamation from the city, recognizing her achievement in front of her band peers.

Congratulations Marley on the outstanding national honors and your remarkable achievement!
